My grandfather was born in the house where the Mauchline ware is exhibited (until it moves across the road) and although he wasn't a box maker his father was. Alexander D my grandfather worked in a cable ship, doing repair work off Newfoundland and Peru, until he moved to New York in 1917 as General Manager of CSAC Co later called All America Cables and then back to London in 1923.He died just before he retired, so he never had the chance to realise his ambition of coming back to live in Scotland).
