Village Sign

The design of the village sign is nearing completion and it is planned to progress the work sufficiently to hold an event at the Village Hall on Saturday 28th September. The village sign project was initiated as a symbol
for the new millennium, but now in 2002 forms part of the Jubilee celebrations.

The village turned out in force in 1953 at the Coronation to
have their photographs taken and we will again have a photographer available to record the present company. There will be a barbecue and an opportunity to inspect those photos taken in 1953 and identify friends from long ago. You can sneak a preview of the sign and a copy of the original 1953 photos, plus lots lots more, by going online to:

"In the beginning & and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1.

Dear friends,

At a recent meeting of the Church Council it was muted that Boyton might benefit from a larger amount of space in The Contact. Another member suggested that Boyton might "venture alone" and produce their own village newspaper. So here is the first issue!

It can be what you, the people of Boyton and Capel would like it to be! Jesus said, "Go out and spread the word." Boyton may be a small village but sometimes that is easier because there are fewer people and most know each other. We can spread the word, we can share successes and happinesses. We can share sadnesses and sorrows, but most important we can communicate with each other. We hope this new venture will be followed by a very fantastic fete.

Yours in Christ,

Geoff and Judith.

BOYTON PARISH COUNCIL

Précis of Matters Discussed at the Parish Council Meeting Tue 16 July 2002 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall

  • A letter had been received from Mrs Jill Tiley thanking Councillors for their letter of condolence following the death of Mr Michael Tiley.
  • A letter from Suffolk Drug Action Team, offering a free training session to Parish Councils, was considered. It was felt that this would be very valuable.
  • The proposed housing development on Woodbridge base was discussed. It was noted that Army children would leave Sandlings School but that the school would remain open for the time being.
  • The 60 mile Sandlings Walk between Ipswich and Southwold was an interesting development. It was noted that Hollesley Parish Council was studying the feasibility of a footpath / cycle path between the Water Tower and Duck Corner, Hollesley.
  • Proofs of the proposed Boyton village sign were discussed. It was proposed that the existing Parish Council noticeboard be replaced.
  • The tree preservation order at The Old School House was discussed.
  • It was noted that there was a problem with rubbish bags being left outside properties for several days, with subsequent damage by animals and birds and litter being scattered.
