Please take an interest and support your local activities through attending, sponsorship or to participate. You never know, you might even enjoy yourself! Ed.

Boyton Fete
The fete will again be held at the Village Hall
Saturday 30th August at 2pm.

The fete is a week earlier than previous years, and we will hopefully be blessed with good weather. So why not come along, bring some friends, and have a good time.

The usual stalls will be there: Tombola, Produce, Teas, Cakes, White Elephant, Games, BBQ, Raffle, and more, plus some surprises! Proceeds will go towards the Church and maintenance of the Village Hall.

Village Sign

At last! Weve had the new village sign in our hands for a few weeks now and are in the final stages of preparation &

The grand unveiling will take place at 3.00pm at the Village Hall on the day of the fete Saturday 30 August 2003.

All members of the village are invited to be present @3pm to join in the Village Photograph, as per the Coronation back in 1953 when the village turned out in force.

There will also be an opportunity to inspect those photos taken in 1953 and identify friends from long ago.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped and contributed towards this fabulous addition to the village. From the original concept, through production to the clearing and unveiling. It is indeed a proud symbol of our heritage.

You can sneak a preview of the sign and a copy of the original 1953 photos, plus lots lots more, by going online to:

BOYTON PARISH COUNCIL AGM

Summary of matters discussed at the Parish Council meeting held on Wednesday 9th July 2003

  • Mr Lilley, Dr Stentiford, Mr Greenwell and Mrs Lansdowne were present. Mrs Rhona Sturrock (District Councillor), PC Andy Warne and two residents were also present. The Clerk was in attendance. Apologies were received from Mr Lane.
  • The minutes of the Parish Council Annual General Meeting held on 14 May, having been accepted, were signed by the Chairman.
  • PC Warne reported on two recent crimes in the village. Councillors expressed their sympathy with a local resident whose van had been written off after a collision with a car driven by a local juvenile.
  • Mrs Sturrock reported that thirty families were being housed in temporary accommodation on Woodbridge Base and forty houses were being sold by Annington to a housing association.
  • The Council discussed the Play Space Levy.
  • Dr Stentiford reported on correspondence received from the auditor concerning the annual accounts. He had put a notice on the board advising residents of their right to inspect the accounts. Cheques were signed for £10 for hire of the village hall for the meeting and £90 to Mr Gilligan as an annual payment for grasscutting.
  • The new noticeboard had been received and it was hoped to put it up before too long. Mr Lilley and Dr Stentiford would organise a working party to clear a site at the village hall where the noticeboard and the village sign would be located. It was hoped that the village sign would be received before too long.
  • Following complaints received at a recent Parochial Church Council meeting concerning the possible dangers from glass at the village hall, it had been decided not to proceed with the new recycling bins.
  • Mr Greenwell said that the Trustees of the Mary Warner Homes would allocate space for parking at the Mary Warner Homes on land on the lefthand side of the drive for visitors to the church.
  • Mr Lilley reported on hedgerow and tree surveys in Boyton and Hollesley.
  • It was agreed that the Clerk should receive reimbursement of expenses for postage, stationery, etc. incurred in the course of her Parish Council duties.

Date of next meeting:

Wednesday 17 September 2003,

7.30pm Boyton Village Hall.

Mid-Suffolk Bridleways Assocation

The MSBA was started by a group of like-minded people back in 1979. Its aims were to establish the legal existence of rights of way; to clear and maintain existing bridleways; to ensure sign posting of routes; to encourage horses to be ridden off the highways wherever possible.

Twenty four years on, its priorities are still much the same, although the clearing and maintenance of bridleways is now mainly the province of the County Council. The priority of the MSBA is to research and further bridleway claims, working with all the relevant Councils, and to assist members who have a problem in the local area. During the year pleasure rides are also organised for members in areas where off-road riding can be guaranteed.

The MSBA also produces a quarterly newsletter, which includes articles on safety, bridleway claims and workshops. You do not have to be a rider to be a member, just have an interest in bridleways etc and keeping them open.
