My, how time flies when you are having fun, or does it just seem that way the older we get? Christmas and New Year seem so distant now and we are starting to look forward to half term and even talking of Easter. Lots of good things have been happening since the last edition and there is still lots to come. So read on and find out whats in store. Ed.

BOYTON CHURCH RESTORATION UPDATEThe whole village through its friends and families have all rallied round and made fabulous progress, with lots of fun had by many along the way. Fund raising is on target (£6,242 raised towards the £20,000 required) and tenders for the necessary work are currently in progress.

Below is a list of future events, but first some thanks for the events since the last edition& Mary Chittock has raised over £300 in marmalade and home produce that is a lot of jam jars! Pat and Malcolm Fleetwood have held several coffee mornings as well as a successful Beetle drive. Isobel Lilley arranged a wonderful harvest supper with a presentation from Peggy Cole. We have also been privileged to another delightful concert from our very own Wilford Singers. John Hall has printed many of the tickets, posters, cards and notelets. Not forgetting all those who have helped as well as everyone who has supported and attended with these events. Thank You.

Forthcoming events include:

  • Valentine Day Concert, A Romantic Journey of Music for Harp with Voice. Harpist Jo Hamlyn, St Andrews Church, Boyton, 7.30pm, Saturday 12th Feb. £10pp incl. wine.
  • Champagne buffet, reception and talk with Sir Peter Wright (Director Laureate, Birmingham Royal Ballet) at Woodbridge School, Saturday 19th March 2005. £15pp or £7.50 for children.

Tickets for the above from Malcolm 01394 410409 or Woodbridge Books, 66 Thoroughfare.

A video/DVD film of our major activities is being compiled as a record of our achievement which will also be used to support future fund-raising.

Please remember that any expenses incurred for an event will be reimbursed, but if the contribution is donated please consider presenting the receipts through Gift Aid which increases the value by 28%.

If you wish to help or contribute in any way please contact Michael Beattie, 410117.

Matters Arising from AGM:

Parish records these are still to be collected from the former clerk by the present incumbent. Planning applications no further comments from SCDC following earlier erroneous suggestions that Boyton PC had not replied / replied late.

Parish Plan The Way Forward

The Chair outlined the position regarding the village plan, and the general apathy shown at the last two AGMs when it had been discussed. He has been advised by Annette Grey that new funding sources had been identified and if in the future villages wished to benefit from such finance they are now required to submit a registration of intent form. This was discussed and agreement reached that Boyton should complete and submit such a form to maintain the possibility of support when and if we feel able to proceed. Action Mr Lilley.

IN MEMORY OF ANNE HERMIONE ROYLE BANTOFT

Anne Hermione Royle was born 1918 in Stockport, Cheshire. In 1946 she and her husband Freddy moved to Boyton after buying a farm. She was a passionate gardener, talented painter and adored the river Alde, which she sailed on for years in a little clinker dingy called Topaz. Anne became a sort of archivist for the village at one time holding an exhibition in Boyton Church on the history of the village.

Anne had a passion for life and had a truly remarkable existence. At the age of 70 she trekked in the Himalayas. She trained for this by walking up and down the pebble banks at Shingle Street in her climbing boots, the nearest thing she could find to a hill!

Anne Bantoft was released from her illness before Christmas 2004 and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

VILLAGE HALL REPAIRS

You will have noticed that some new windows have been installed in the village hall.  This has been possible through a 50% grant from Suffolk Coastal District Council.  We are also fortunate to have received a further grant from Peter Monk which together with the remaining grant from SCDC will enable the dilapidated kitchen door and remaining windows to be replaced. In addition, we have been given a microwave oven and chest freezer for use in the hall many thanks to Aline and Sheila.

BOYTON GARDENS OPEN DAY volunteers required

In aid of the church restoration fund, it is proposed that on the w/e 2-3 July 2005, our joint parishes of Boyton and Capel St Andrew will have a garden open day. There will be charge made payable at the village hall for which a map will be given for access to the open gardens. We also hope to serve teas en-route too. If we can open as many gardens as possible we can give a great deal of pleasure to many whilst raising valuable funds. If you are willing to help in any way please contact Kay at Marrallomena on 411729 or Ali at the Smithy on 411717.
