From The Rectory,

Happy April Fool's Day!

The history of April Fool's day is uncertain, but some think it began in 1582 in France when the calendar was reformed under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced and New Year's Day was moved from the week of March 25th - April 1st to January 1st. Communication travelled slowly so some people

were only informed of the change after several years; some refused to acknowledge it and continued with the old celebration. These people were labelled "Fools" and were subject to ridicule, sent on fools' errands and had practical jokes played on them. . Nobody likes to be made a. fool of, but sometimes we need to be reminded not to take ourselves too seriously. Life is too short not to be able to laugh at ourselves every once in a while.

Yours Geoffrey
