General Information: According to the Berkshire Marriage Index, Caroline Gossington a widow married John Freebody a widower of Newbury on the 8th June 1814. Although it is not proven that this John is the widower of Ann Balding, the year and place (Kintbury near Newbury) make it most likely. John's first wife Ann nee Balding died in December 1813. There is a gravestone in Kintbury churchyard inscribed with the following: To the memory of Caroline wife of John Freebody
who died February (3rd or 5th difficult to read) 1820 Aged 43 years. |
