General Information: According to the Berkshire Marriage Index and Sarum Marriage Licence Bonds, Catherine Hemming spinster aged 34 of Kinbury married John Freebody aged 43 a widower of Kintbury on the 31st May 1820. Although it is not proven that this John is the widower of Ann nee Balding and Caroline nee Gossington, the year and place make it most likely. Ann died in December 1813, and Caroline February 1820. The 1851 census states Catherine's age as 62, contradicting other documents. At this time she was a general shop keeper. According to the burial index, Catherine Freebody was buried at St Mary's Kintbury on 24th September 1862 aged 74. From administrations of 1862 the following: Freebody Catherine (effects under £200)
1st November. Letters of administration of the personal estate and effects
of Catherine Freebody late of Kintbury in the County of Berkshire, widow
deceased, who died 16.09.1862 at Kintbury, aforesaid were granted at Oxford
to George Freebody of Kintbury aforesaid, Saddler, and Catherine Dyer
(wife of Henry Hugh Dyer, Builder) of Ramsbury in the County of Wiltshire,
the only children of the said deceased, they have been first sworn.
