Katina's History:

Katina was captured with 6 other orcas: Kasatka (SWC), Betty*, Kotar*, Kahana*, and 2 unnamed ones. Kasatka and Katina are the only two still living today. When she was captured she was sent to Marineland Ontario were she joined Knootka*, Kanduke* and Kandu 2*. But she didn't stay very long, and she was sent to SeaWorld Ohio, were she performed with Kasatka. In SWC (where they were transferred for winter), Katina mated with Winston* and was sent to SWF to handle her birth. In 26 September 1985 Katina gave birth to Kalina. During the birth Kona 2*, who was dominant female at the time, assisted her. Kalina is the first successful birth to be born and still live to this date! In 1987 Katina was pregnant again and mated with Kanduke* (who had recently arrived) and gave birth to Katerina* but in 1999 she died. Katina hadn't had another calf in a while until Tilikum arrived at SeaWorld in 1992, and they mated. In September 1993 little Taku was born! When Gudrun* died 1996 Katina became dominate female and not long after she gave birth to her fourth calf Unna. And Finally in August 2002 she gave birth to Ikaika.
