Keet's Status

Keet's History

Keet is the first calf of the first orca to be successfully born in captivity (Kalina). Only when he was 1 year his mother was transferred to SeaWorld Orlando to support her pregnancy with her second calf, Keto, Keet's younger brother. Keet had spent 5 years of his life at SWT until in 1999 when he was transferred to San Diego. At San Diego Keet met Takara, his half sister, and Keto his younger brother. But Keet and Keto did not get along. Keet did not stay long at SWC. In April 2000 Keet, Keto and Sumar were transferred to SeaWorld Ohio. Once again, their stay was not long and Sumar and Keet were sent back to SeaWorld San Diego, whilst Keto went to Keet's birth place, SeaWorld San Antonio. One time in February 4th, 2003, Keet  was playing around in the show pool. He jumped up and grabbed onto one of the targets that had been lowered. The ball snapped off and Keet swallowed it. For a while trainers had to put a tube down his throat and into his stomach, filled with water, to make him regurgitate the ball. For 3 weeks the ball stayed in his stomach, but he did regurgitate it. Through that period of time, Keet remained healthy and ate normally. Now, trainers no longer allow the targets to be that low.
