Splash's Status
Splash is one of the lowest, on the dominancy scale. Splash gets on well, best with Ulises, Corky and Orkid. Splash performs daily in shows and he is a very sweet orca. Because of his appearance some say he is ugly, but he is anything but that!
Splash's History
Splash was the first successful birth at MLC. He was 6 months premature, and he has epilepsy which may be due to that.. A few minutes after his birth he slid up onto a slide-out, and trainers then had to push him back off. Splash was named Katak at Marineland Ontario, but when he was moved to SeaWorld San Diego, at the age of 2 and half years old, he was re-named Splash. Corky became his adoptive mother at SWC.
On 10th July 1995, Splash was playing with Orkid, when he accidentally ran into a gate and which knocked him out, out he sank to the bottom of the pool. Kasatka and Orkid brought him to the surface. He was then taken to the medical pool, so his wound could be looked at. His wound got worse over the next few days and became infected, affecting the roots of his teeth. Vets then had to remove some of his teeth. This incident has changed his appearance a lot.
