The author was born near a ford over the river Roach on Michaelmas Day
in the year that the Mini car was first produced. He lives in Fynevue
bungalow, so named because the outlook was once onto open land.
- Michaelmas Day is the Feast Day of St.Michael, Archangel and caster-out
of Satan, dragon combatant and patron of soldiers, horses and high
places.
- The editor of The Times from 1878 to 1884 was Thomas Chenery, a former
Professor of Arabic at Oxford.
