The Spalding & District Amateur Radio Society (SDARS) is a vibrant, progressive and well established society. Established in 1965 by the late Dennis G4OO, Sam G3XBS and surviving member Roy G3VPR, we draw our members from Spalding and the surrounding area, although it is pleasing to report that some members still remain when they move district and country. The membership is currently just over 50.

We are fortunate to have a club room and radio shack in the town centre this is equipped for HF, VHF and ATV; we actively encourage members to participate and can draw upon a wide range of experienced amateurs to assist in almost every aspect of the hobby.

The club has always run classes for the Radio Amateurs Examination and the Morse Test, we are of the opinion that through this route the hobby will continue to thrive, expand and push forward the boundaries of communication. It also played a part in the trials of the new 3-tier system for the Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Licences. SDARS has been successful in getting more than 60 people through the new system. Some people have decided to stick with the foundation licence and some have gone all the way to achieve the Advanced Licence.

G4NBR runs classes for all of the three new licences on a regular basis and it is thanks to the patience of John that many more amateurs will be brought into the hobby. So if you live in, or near to South Lincolnshire and would like to “have a look at” amateur radio, then feel free to pop along on a Friday night and say hello, we don’t bite.

The premier event in the clubs calendar is the annual Spalding Radio Rally, see you there on the 6th June 2010

If you want to have a go at obtaining an amateur licence then why not give John a ring on 07946302815 or visit the website at www.sdars.org.uk.

Hope to see you soon.
