HOW TO USE IT
Simple. If you can hear someone using it wait until
the carrier drops, i.e. your carrier light goes off, or your
bargraph drops. Wait one second then identify yourself with callsign
twice (the PTT switch will trip in). Then transmit as normal
remembering that if you have a long gap between speech the ptt may
drop out and the station that you are talking to may think that you
have passed it back to them. Please remember to give your callsign
at the end of your over, as you are likely to be transmitting out
of the UK. There then follows a delay of approx 3 or 4 seconds.
And you will hear the other station reply.

PROBLEMS?
Intermittent speech from the other station ? This is
caused by packet loss e.g. net congestion / poor satellite
/ telecoms lines. Sometimes this can get particularly
bad and may even cause a complete loss of transmission. However
we do have work arounds in the event.
The only other problem is when the other station asks
if you really are in the UK because they are listening
and talking to you on 70cms from thousands of miles away !!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Maybe the diagram would help (or
confuse)
WHERE CAN WE LINK TOO?
Any country that has similar facilities. Ham operators in several
countries are working with their licensing authorities to permit its use.
Notable repeater links one evening included Warrington / Oldham UK
talking through a repeater in Illinois to a mobile in Chicago and a
fixed station in New Zealand.
we have also linked through a repeater in Nashville Tennessee to a
mobile station who was driving to the airport, who then continued
the QSO whilst piloting his own aircraft!
LOG ENTRIES?
The RA have not indicated their preference, but it has been
suggested that you treat it as any other repeater i.e. the
callsign of the station worked, UK frequency, via GB3PZ
or G4HFG Inet link.
The link is active most evenings and weekends
Please go ahead and use it.
New Internet NOV holders?
Need a hand with the set-up? I’d be pleased to help
G4HFG supports use it or lose it. The 70cms band is
extremely valuable piece of spectrum worth millions to
commercial users. Our colleagues fought hard to get it.
Don’t let it fall into disuse.
Hence USE IT or LOSE IT
