“Ambush”

Here we were once again at the wonderful Red Lion in Bozeat to see the equally wonderful “Ambush” play an electric set of covers from the likes of Ozzy, Def Leopard (a truly excellent version of “Animal”!), Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, AC DC and Whitesnake to name but a few.
The band itself is essentially another incarnation of that other great band “Black Rose” and indeed shares a number of said musicians in the line-up.
Musically I believe “Ambush” deliver a more wide and varied set than “Black Rose” with a little something for everyone’s rock music taste but of the same high quality and standard.
Most certainly their pedigree is a fine one, with Andy Green providing his usual exceptionally high standard of string work, delivering with apparent ease both rhythm and lead guitar work.
On Drums the effervescent and highly talented Gary Sassano delivered the beats at a pace and effectiveness that “Machine Gun Kelly” would have been proud of! If ever there was a time to feel sorry for a poor drum kit this was it!
On lead Vocals was Gary Hill who had a steady and accomplished performance whilst delivering one hell of a fine air guitar show that you could be forgiven for thinking was indeed the band’s second guitarist in action!
Finally on Bass was Mick White who provided some excellent heavy percussion thus bringing together this band’s set perfectly.
The sound on the night was great (but beware – ear plugs were definitely a must!) My only very slight grumble (and it’s a very small one) was that I thought that the vocals could have been a tadge higher as some of the lower notes seemed to have been drowned out a bit.
Overall “Ambush” was exactly what the doctor ordered, banishing to extinction any cobwebs you might have had lurking around inside your head and leaving you feeling well and truly exhausted by the end of their performance! In my book at least – this is the mark of an exceptionally good band and one that does exactly what it says on the tin – It Rocks!
This is one band that that is not for the squeamish or faint hearted, but rather for those of us out there who like our music, fast, furious and very loud!
I can only finish off by saying – I want more, lots more and I want it now!
See them soon for an exceptionally good night of pure Rock excellence!
