It’s been a long time since I last saw “The Donkeys” and time has been most kind to this band who continue to pump out those classic old Rock Anthems that are both crowd pleasing as well as timeless and they do it with both passion and style.
Be in no doubt that “The Donkeys” can be relied on for giving the customer exactly what they want time and time again and if what you want is a party band that really knows how to rock then this is the band for you.
On this particular evening the band played at what is probably Milton Keynes newest gig venues; The Plough in Bletchley, which I must say is a fantastic friendly little venue with lots of space and a purpose built stage area to boot. This is what many might call a “proper pub” that is both family friendly as well as a mecca for many local bikers. I only wish that there were many more pubs like this.
It is at venues such as this that I felt “The Donkeys” were in their element and most at ease driving home predictable but classic tunes from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, AC DC, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Billy Idol, Guns n Roses to name but a few.
The music came courtesy of Stormin Norman on Guitar who most certainly can play those strings with effect, Scott on bass guitar who gave a thumping performance and Dustin on drums who pulled the whole thing together very well. Lastly on lead vocals was Smurf who I must say has a fantastic set of Blues / Rock vocal chords that can easily transverse most rock tunes effortlessly with an incredible vocal range and was an excellent frontman engaging the audience fully and completely. Be in no doubt that if your not singing, then Smurf will come and get ya!
The thing I quite like about this party band is that there are no frills. They are a classic rock covers band. What you see is what you get and it’s done with class, style and a good sense of fun without ever being too “in your face”, over blown or cheesy like many a band these days.
This grounded reality is probably why this band have been around pleasing audiences and delivering the goods for a good 15 years now and are still going strong playing pubs and biker rally’s all over the place.
And long may it continue.
Cheers lads.
