Liquor & Poker

Plough & Harrow, Harpenden on Saturday 05/06/04

This was simply a stompingly brill gig!

Ok from the outside the venue looked a little like a Bernie Inn or Beefeater Steakhouse, but what made this such a good gig was the crowd inside.

Sure there were all the usual friends, partners and fans alike ready for another heady fix of the music we all so love but what really set this gig apart were that the locals actually joined in the fun, got off their arse and came down the front to sing along and shake their thing!

I think it proved to me that rock roots run deep and even in the somewhat posh and wealthy surrounds of Harpenden a good rock tune delivered by an exceptionally good band will always strike a chord and for this particular evening Harpenden was in for a treat!

Right from the start there was a good vibe and buzz to this gig and boy did it show in the bands performance.

Not that any of their gigs are bad or disappointing – far from it. This one I thought was exceptional!

Ok the bass at times was a bit booming but hey what can you do about low ceilings and lots of glass.

It really did not matter, the crowd wanted a good time and they got it by the bucket-full and by the end of the set all they wanted was more! Too bad that the current licensing laws (boo hiss!) did not allow it for this was one set that could have gone on and on.

It’s times like this that I suppose I get a little disappointed that something this good cannot be shared by a whole lot more people in bigger and better venues. It really is far too good and blows away most of the competition but I left this gig with a smile on my face and a tune in my ears, what more could one want from a great night out with friends old and new alike.

Roll on the next one guys!
