Gig: The
Wheatsheaf, Dunstable, on Saturday 17th April 2004
After seeing
quite a few local rock cover / tribute bands in recent months and years, it was with great
pleasure that I finally got a chance to catch this great band the other night and though I
suffer today with partial deafness it was so worth it!
Simply put
they were one of the very best 80's rock tribute bands I have seen in recent times,
playing an electrifying set of modern rock classics, with a little bit of everything from
Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Motley Crew, Guns & Roses, Thunder to Alice Cooper, AC-DC,
Whitesnake, Ozzy and even The Darkness!
This is no
ordinary rock covers band, tirelessly bashing out all the old favourites from times gone
by but rather something very fresh, new and exciting giving true dedication to the music
the band and audience obviously love and enjoy.
I think what
made this particular gig so good for me was the obvious passion that each and every band
member put into their individual performances. Taken as a whole the band were tight, very
tight and from the moment the first drum salvo let rip
I just knew this was going to be a good one!
And they most
certainly did not let me or their audience down.
I believe what
often lets local bands down is their lack of stage presence and however much their musical
virtuosity may be you can often wander out of a gig feeling there was something missing.
This was hardly the case with Liquor & Poker (interesting play on words
guys!). Musically their talent shone forth by
the bucketful. Add to this a memorizing and in your face stage presence and
you have the whole package.
This is a band
that needs to be taken notice of. For me the venue this time round was far far too small
for such a big band. They and their audience need space and lots of it.
So if you
fancy a head banging, foot stomping, music fest of delight, don't miss out on their next Milton Keynes outing. You will be in for
a real treat!
Rock fans
beware! Liquor & Poker are on the scene and they have come out to play!
Enjoy!
