Review of:
“Skid Row”
At “The Pitz, Milton Keynes,
On: Thursday 08/09/05
If what you were looking for was old-skool” Metal in an intimate club atmosphere with one of the biggest Stadium Bands of their generation then this was definitely the gig for you!
Here they were, straight out of the US of A as large as life and as rock n roll as you can get performing only a few feet away from me with an attitude, energy and power as raw and nerve tingling as ever, playing an hour and half set of their most famous head banging tracks such as: “Youth Gone Wild”, Piece of Me”, “Psycho Love”, Monkey Business”, and “Slave to the Grind” to name but a few.
For me, this was what and is Rock n Roll, a hot and blistering set, back to basics, in a hot, crowded and sweaty little club. No special effects, just sheer adrenalin pumping beats and riffs coming out of a band that we know have been around the block a few times before in more ways than one.
In fact their last appearance at Milton Keynes was some 15 years ago at the Milton Keynes Bowel where they supported Bon Jovi in front of 65,000 fans, so this was a kind of home coming for the band.
After all this time away you could be forgiven for thinking that this might just be a gig a tadge under par or some sort of half baked rehearsal for an upcoming revival tour, but you would thankfully be very wrong indeed.
This was an all out assault on our senses kindly being delivered by a line up that has changed over the years, but are still every inch and metal sinew “Skid Row”:
I can offer nothing bad to be said about this gig which I felt was a truly excellent show and delivered the goods by the bucketful to a most appreciative and supportive audience of die-hard rock & metal fans (myself very much included).
Special thanks must be extended to the sound engineers who did a sterling job on the mix delivering a quality and finely tuned sound.
I only wish that far more top bands such as “Skid Row”, take the plunge and go back to their roots playing these smaller and more intimate venues where the buzz is that much more intense and “in your face”.
Rock till you drop boys, you did us all proud and we look forward to seeing you back again real soon.
A big Yee-haa to you all!
