Review of
Meggido
at The Red Lion
Stevanage on Saturday 07/08/04
I had been meaning to check out Meggido for
quite some time but due to their somewhat hectic schedule and gigs been held far and wide
this happened to be my first opportunity and how glad I was for making the trip and going
to see them.
This was
one hot summer evening and I must admit that the thought of sitting inside a hot and
steamy pub was quite daunting but how glad I was for making the effort.
Meggido
are a hard and heavy in-your-face rock/metal band who pleasantly surprise
their audience with a good array of their own music (quite unique amongst most rock/metal
outfits these days) along with the odd cover from the likes of Deep Purple and Motorhead.
Their set is a
full on aggressive, powerfest assault of rock/metal genius with not a single break to be
had, or hint of musical compromise.
The
wealth of talent on offer was obvious with some amazing machine gun style
drumming from Mike Ellis, some awesome guitar playing by Shaun Duanne playing what I can
only describe as one mother of an evil guitar set, Mark Tomkings playing some superb bass
and complimenting this metal quartet on vocals the excellent and most charismatic and
mesmerizing Coll Matreaves.
This was
most certainly a gig to shake the cobwebs from your head and though incredibly hot the
band gave it their all giving their appreciative audience a most pleasurable assault on
their senses.
So if you
like your metal hot, loud and powerful you could most certainly do a whole lot worst than
checking out this top band. Just dont forget to bring your ear plugs. Your going to
need them! These guys (and thoroughly nice guys they are too) have the power to take you
to the max of your musical endurance and then some!
Thanks
for a great gig guys
..
