S1 is the area of woodland running alongside commonside east, The wood is a mixture mature birch, oak hawthorn and patches of gorse. Both green and greater spotted woodpecker are fairly common, kestrel perch on the tree tops and sparrow hawks regularly hunt in the woods. In the autumn the wood are particularly good for fungi puff balls being common around the base of some of the mature oaks.
