A few images on my LeMans. I purchased the bike in March 2001 and was really pleased with the standard of the bike, it pretty original except for braided hoses and Koni shocks. It had around 11,000 miles showing which looked original as the handle bar and footrest rubbers were slightly perished but not worn and the overall condition was good with no real rattles.
I have only used the bike for a variety of uses but only one long journey and would not recommend it. I have heard of some people doing considerable mileage's on these bikes, they must be mad. I was really pleased to get off after two or three hours in the saddle. This is kind of missing the point and not what the bike is about. On the test ride when buying the bike I only had to open the throttle once and I was so in love with it. It sounds great, goes reasonably well and the handleing is brilliant even by modern bike standards. Cornering takes no effort at all it just does it. At the time of writing I have now done around 2000 miles on the bike. On country roads in my view I have never ridden a better bike.
What about the famed Italian reliability?
Well the bike has let me down once. Some bolts holding the duct cover
onto the rear wheel came out and managed to lodge between the bevel box
and the rear wheel making allot of noise and cracking the outer flange
on the bevel box and damaging the threads on the wheel. When I checked
it looked like the bolts used were too short which is why they must have
come loose. I managed to get the wheel repaired with helicoils, bought
a new dust cover and will shortly replace the bevel casing. It hasn't put
me off the bike and other than the one incident it has been fine.
I have also scanned a copy of the LeMans 1 brochure rear page. The quality
is not fantastic, but if interested, the link is here.
