The Area


Le Pottreau is situated in the tranquil and serene village of Panzoult, just 10km from the medieval town of Chinon, right in the heart of the Loire Valley. Panzoult, with a population of 500 people, lies between the River Vienne and the Forest of Chinon and is ideally placed to take in the history and culture of this beautiful region of France.
Only in a small village but within walking distance of Le Pottreau, you will find a baker, grocer and a cafe/bar. And for the other necessary amenities, it is only a 10 minute drive to Chinon where you will find banks, supermarkets, shops and a large selection of restaurants and cafes. The area surrounding Le Pottreau is particularly ideal for those who like walking in the countryside. There are a number of planned routes, where the designated paths criss cross the forest and the open fields. Everything you need to enjoy the perfect holiday.
The region is well known for the excellent wines produced. In fact, on the road between Chinon and Panzoult, you will pass numerous vineyards, where holidaymakers are very welcome to drop in and spend some time tasting the local wines. There are  also vineyards at Bourgueil, Saumur and Vouvray and for those interested these are are well worth a visit.

The whole
area is steeped in history and culture and there are many interesting sights to see and places to visit. None more than the many chateaux to be found in the region. The ones at Amboise, Azay le Rideau, Chenonceau, Usse and Villandry are all within easy reach of Le Pottreau. And there are many more, including the one in Chinon, a massive fortress overlooking the River Vienne. This famous castle dates from the reign of Henry II, father of Richard the Lionheart and King John. Chinon is also famous for the visits by Joan of Arc and as the home of Rabelais.
