For some reason the murder of this porn model (and psychology student) has really depressed me. Obviously, any death is terrible for everyone who knew the person but I didn't know Natel King and I'm not sure that I'm familiar with her work.
I feel myself railing against the potential accusations (about her former career and the "inevitable" consequences that some people might believe it can have) but that just seems like a petty response to me. Like other people (some of them famous) who died before I got the chance to know them I feel a deeply selfish loss and desire to have had them in my life.
Obviously I'd like to send my condolensces to her friends and family.

Those scary kids at Berkley and their weird ideas!. There was another "man machine" hybrid thing a while ago on slashdot. I suspect that the cost and relative pointlessness of super strength in combat will limit the usage of this kind of thing to the construction industry. Being strong is a great teenage fantasy but in reality it has relatively little use. You'd end up being much heavier and require an awful lot more resources just to carry munitions that could be easily outmatched by a tank. You'd be a smaller target but modern munitions would still make you toast pretty quickly.
