Explaining the A-list

http://www.shirky.com/writings/powerlaw_weblog.html

I haven't been obsesively pursueing "the weblog" with the sort of childlike glee that characterised my initial forray into the "Blogosphere" (as with the original Complete Toss, Soap Opera and the other blogs I created) so I have no idea whether the A-list is still a talking point but here's a nice explanation of why the effect, that is to say people choosing a small number of blogs to read out of a huge variety, actually happens.
Of course, people want to believe in an A-list as part of their desire for a narrative in which they are the victim, so this explanation is unlikely to stop the bleating (if, indeed, there actually is any anymore).

Milky milky (bar egg)

This is a UK centric post so it doesn't matter that the title is a UK '90s in-joke.
Mother purchased a "Milky Bar Egg" for me today and I'm about to eat it. But it occurs to me that it should actually be called a "Milky Egg". "Milky Bar Egg" just sounds redundant.

Looking for a news source?

http://www.mondotimes.com/index.html

Mondo times lists the websites of thousands of newspapers, tv stations and magazines. Why you would find this useful I'm not sure but it exists so you ought to try to do something with it.
And how do these cats make money? Assuming that they even make any money.

Etymology database

quoted from the front (linked) page:
"I began this project after I looked one day for a free dictionary of word origins online and found that there was none...For some reason no university has seen fit to shackle its graduate students to the cyber-mill, grinding out an online etymology dictionary. So I decided to do it for them."

Looks kind of like it but it's not identical or anything. It's seems to be too fat and too shinny as well. Wish i could get a link to a picture to work, I guess you'll just have to follow the link above if you want to see it.
