Well After finding out that the changes to the Tax  Free Status for 25 Year old vehicles had been altered to a fixed date and not a rolling 25 years by the latest Government. I was a bit miffed to say the least. All my hard work on ARBY my V6 S111 Lightweight was virtually for  nothing.

As we all know running an old, or even a new Land Rover isnt cheap, so the bonus of a Tax Exempt vehicle would have been nice. ARBY missed the new date by just 5 months. So I sold it, and funnily enough it has returned to its old stomping grounds, I got it from Southampton, and it now resides on the Isle of Wight. So it was back to the drawing board.

Now being a member of the Lightweight Club, I noticed a "Project Vehicle" in the back of the current issue of the club mag.
I phoned up, and it was way up north just outside Preston. So after several phone calls, to ascertain the situation, I duly set out early one Saturday morning in the 110 with my son Chris, and "Lightweight Dave" from our club (Our club has four Daves, so its easier to know which is which with an additional name!)
Four hours later we arrived in Walton a village just outside Preston, clocking 209 miles with a 1 Ton Ex-BTplant trailer on the back.
We examined this very sorry looking Lightweight. My first reaction was... "What the hell am I buying this pile of junk for"
Dave and I were circling the vehicle in opposite directions and met at the back,
"What do you think?" he said
"Very Bad"... I said.
"OH... I didnt think it was THAT bad for a 30 year old Lightweight" he said.
Hmm I thought, its got a few good points, and a LOT of bad ones, but it was a Tax Exempt Series 2a
It had gone badly in all the normal Lighweight places. What do you expect after a hard life in the army and 30 years old as well!

So we duly loaded it on the trailer and towed it home.
