Painter,
etcher and illustrator. Born Putney, London the twin brother of Charles Maurice
Detmold. Exhibited with his brother for the first time at the RA at the age
of thirteen. 1900 both brothers held a large exhibition at the Fine Art Society,
London. From then on they enjoyed notable success, especially with their drawings
and prints of plants and animals inspired partly by Albrecht Durer. Their
partnership ended tragically in 1908 when Charles Maurice committed suicide.
Edward Julius continued working and in the 1920's he entered into a richly
creative phase. His illustrations included 16 works for Kipling's Jungle Book
in 1903 and an edition of Arabian Knights in 1924. His work is in the collection
of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and in the British Museum, London.
