Painter and printmaker, London born Hodgkin spent the World War II years as an evacuee in America returning in 1943. He studied at Camberwell School of Art, 1949-50, and the Bath Academy of Art at Corsham, 1950-54. He taught for some years at Charterhouse School, then the Bath Academy of Art and finally at Chelsea School of Art. He was appointed Artist in residence at Brasenose College, Oxford, 1976-77 and awarded a CBE in 1977. As well as painting, he has also produced etchings, aquatints and lithographs in a painterly fashion. Shown at the Tate Gallery, 1982. The Turner Prize winner in 1985 he has exhibited in the major gallery around the world, most of whom hold examples of his work.
