North Norfolk Photos HOME The Photographer Spending the first 23 years of my life in the East End of London meant the only trees I saw were those in the local park and the only wildlife I experienced was that which fell out of the pubs on to the pavements after closing time on a Saturday night. The next 20 years were spent in Wickford, near Basildon in Essex, but most of my daylight hours were spent travelling back into London for work so the countryside and I still only rarely encountered each other.
But in 1992, life changed. I'd already taken early retirement from BT and had moved to Epping to be with my new partner Jenny. Partly through her contacts, I became a volunteer with the Council's countryside management team and at the Roding Valley Nature Reserve.
In 2005, we made the decision to move to North Norfolk. I discovered Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve near Fakenham and have been a volunteer there now for at least 2 days every week. The Reserve attracts many highly skilled photographers so I often had the chance to talk to them and watch them at work - and found myself being drawn more and more towards taking up photography as a serious interest. I already had much of the equipment - but very little of the necessary knowledge so, in 2009, I enrolled on a 3 year course.
The syllabus took me into types of photography I knew very little about. One of these was infrared and I found myself fascinated by the ethereal and often magical effects infrared can bring to landscapes and the big skies of Norfolk. This has now become my specialist field and I use a specially converted Nikon D100 camera for this type of work. My other photographs are taken with a Sony A100.
I hope you gain as much pleasure from viewing my photographs as I have gained from taking them.
