As the train travelled south, we stopped at the Bridge on the River Kwai where we visited the War Cemetery and Thailand Burma Railway Centre. Our next stop was at Butterworth in Malaysia, where we took the short ferry ride to the Island of Penang and the historic town of Georgetown. A trishaw ride and a visit to a Chinese Clan House completed our excursion and then it was back on the train for our continuing journey South along the full length of Malaysia and then over the causway into Singapore. We then spent a further three nights at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Singapore.
