Pubs of the A272

George’s Recipes

Our special project for 2002 is to visit all the pubs situated on or within a mile or so of the entire length of the A272. This road runs across some of the most beautiful countryside in Southern England. We start at the source of the A272 about 4 miles from Winchester on the old Roman road. Not a propitious start at a junction with the A31 heading west to Stockbridge.
We travelled west along the A31 in search of the Leckford Hutt, (SO20 6DE) an isolated pub on the way to Stockbridge. When we arrived we found the pub had metamorphosed into
‘Les Copain D’bord’ a restaurant Francais. Undeterred we entered to be greeted ‘Bon jour Monsieur, Res-er-va-ti-on? Sadly, no English ale here, so we left the francophiles to their daft illusion.
