PAST NEWS APRIL 2002
Fax received from Tanzania Thursday 18th April 2002 13:01 hours
Fares has sent a short fax responding mainly to requests for documents and answering
enquiries regarding the forthcoming team. Quote from the fax:
"Good to hear from you about all the details including Rachel's coming.
The family is doing ok at the moment. The children finished their two week
holiday on Monday. It is raining a lot in Tanzania at the moment to the point of
causing floods in some areas."

Other News:
As mentioned in our last 'latest news' a date has now been fixed for Faith Turner and
Victoria Kyriakidis to start their long term service with Bethany. They leave on May the 19th
accompanied by Graham Pountain who returns after 2 weeks!
You may also remember that Gill Luck joins the team in July.
However we can now tell you about another volunteer who believes God has called her back
to serve at Bethany for 12 months - Rachel Hill. Rachel has already served Bethany on two
previous occasions -firstly for two weeks and then for 3 months when she went with Tracey
Pearson. Both Gill and Rachel are booked to go out to join Faith and Victoria on July 22nd
this year.
So from July 22nd we will increase the size of the team from two to six!

Summer trip: This has now been arranged for the 5th August to the 21st August. Those going
are: Sharon Gerrard, Rebecca Taylor, Vicky Payne, Barry Thompson and Paul Pountain. Sharon
is a primary school teacher, Rebecca is a medical student, Vicky is a youth worker, Barry is a
music teacher and Paul is a R.E. student. Paul and Barry are hoping to help with the football!
Accommodation will be in short supply for those two weeks with a total of 5 visitors and a team
of 6! (4 UK plus Fares and Grace)
Future Trips: We have a few people still interested in visiting Bethany for different reasons and
we hope they may be able to go on future trips. We hope Brian Bancroft, Eddie Jeffery and
Graham Pountain could possibly be each making a trip before the end of the year between
September and December 2002 so please contact us as soon as possible if you are still hoping
to go in the near future.
Bethany Visit to the UK: We are still considering the possibilities of this and the next step will
be in depth discussions with Fares and Grace and other workers involved on our next trip out in
May. If possible we are still looking at March April next year.
Prayer morning/Information day Saturday April 27th. We are hoping to have a good
attendance and to welcome some new faces. If you're interested in the work why not join us you
will find details on our index page.

Fax received Saturday 27th April 11:02 hours from Fares (Tanzania)
Some of the children are suffering from Typhoid including Lafuta, Mwasi and Fabian as well
as baby Moses. They are all receiving treatment and we hope they will all recover soon. Two
students from Kahangala are due to stay from May 4th to June the 7th - they will help with
the work. A joiner from the local village has come and made 6 tables and 12 benches for the
dining room. He has also repaired 4 bunk beds and one window. Fares has also had visitors
from Kay Street Baptist Church in Rawtenstall.

Monthly Prayer Morning / Information Day held on the Saturday 27th April.
We were pleased to welcome Hannah Child from Woking a pharmacologist who is looking at
the possibility of visiting Bethany on the next available trip to be organised probably in
September. We were also pleased to welcome Keith and his wife Barbara Anne
accompanied by Caroline who are hoping to visit the project in August with a group of RAF
university students and others. They hope to fly to Nairobi and then travel by road to
Bethany. We spent a good deal of time going through various options as to how they could
help the project. At present they are looking at the possibility of helping design and build a
purpose built Kitchen and multi purpose dining room (hopefully to accommodate a 100
children per sitting).
Next monthly Prayer Morning / Information Day will be on Saturday 1st June same
time, same place - all welcome.
