We have just heard from Maria De Freitas who tells us that she has been unwell recently and on
investigation has found she will need a fairly major operation within a week or so. We ask that you include
Maria in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Maria will therefore no longer be able to visit Bethany in
January as planned but hopes to visit later in the year when she is fully recovered.
Please remember

Fares writes 'We took Tabaji back from Kuleana. He was dirty and sick because nobody was looking after
him. Our whole family was very sad for that. His wound is worse again. We don't know if any operation
shall be performed on him on the 27th of Dec. because of the wound!'
The siphon is still not working properly and they are having to use the diesel pump. Fortunately the rains
are continuing and the demand for water is less so the tank only needs filling every few days.
Phil and Jo have visited again
There have been floods in Mwanza - 'many people have died and some houses fell down'.
Other News:
Rachel Hill is to join Brian Bancroft, Christopher Gaster and Maria De Freitas on their visit 14th to 27th
January 2001. Another possible longer term volunteer (in future years) please pray for her.
We have advised Fares not to return Tabaji into the care of Kuleana but to arrange directly with the hospital
regarding the operation on his foot. (n.b. Kuleana are a caring organisation but do not have the resources to
care for their children as we do at Bethany)
We are considering using 4" pipes running level to the lake from the well. This will not rely on the siphon
pipe to fill the well and should be more reliable. However it will be a major task as we will need to dig a
trench by hand over 100 metres long and over 2 metres down.
