Fax from Tanzania Friday 1st June 2001 11:32 hours
The solar pump is no longer pumping (a new inverter is ready to fly out with Brian Bancroft on the 10th
June - this should make it work again) and the team are now having problems with the diesel pump quote: 'On Wednesday the diesel pump also decided not to work, our 10-0-clock meeting included heartfelt prayer on this issue, especially Rachel who wasn't looking forward to the thought of carrying lots of buckets of water on her head! Thankfully the prayers worked and it's been pumping fine since (we would like a new inverter if at all possible please!).
Further quotes on other issues:
'The school holidays began today, so we have been planning lots of things to do with them over the
next month. The rainy season seems to be coming to an end, although we have had rain up to a few days ago. The change in seasons may have contributed to the number of children suffering from malaria this past week. Regina is back, recovered from typhoid, now suffering from malaria.
While the children are on holiday we hope to start harvesting the many sweet potatoes and rice. We
are also planning to plant some tomatoes, onions and cabbages and see how we get along.'
It appears that we have a problem with the staffing of the Clinic. The team need your prayers in
knowing how to handle the situation and we also need to employ a replacement lab technician.
No further progress to report on Grace and Fares's baby.

Baby Moses entered the world on Saturday the 2nd June - Grace and baby are both well.
Grace is staying at her Mums in Magu for the time being.
Fares is looking forward to Brians visit so that he can spend some time with his wife and baby.
Tracey and Rachel have been busy cleaning out the medical lab and their next project is the
children's bedrooms.
The children are still on holiday and the Bethany football team have been in action with the
village boys and the results are; first game 1-,1 second game the Bethany boys lost 6-2.
The problems at the Clinic still remain and we are still without a lab technician to do the tests
etc..

Fax from Tanzania Friday 22nd June 2001 10:10 hours
Everyone seems well at Bethany Tanz. here are some quotes from their latest fax:
'Greetings all. We are sending this after waving goodbye to Brian as he begins his 3 day adventure
by bus (rather him than us!)
'Regina returned to Magu on Monday hoping to start back at school after having a check-up to
make sure the Typhoid has disappeared.'
'News concerning the Clinic - we may have a new lab-technician, he's coming down to check us out
next week.'
Note from Brian, 'Tracey and Rachel are coping well but I think they're a bit mad'.
Note from Rachel and Tracey, ' ..we must be to put up with Brian for two weeks'.
'The water is still pumping fine there have been no problems at all over the last two weeks. Brian
has also made a new ladder for the well.'
'...the chickens have been laying very well - we have 4 eggs a day!'
End quotes.
Hope you get a feel of how our volunteers are in Tanzania. As for Brian's bus trip from Mwanza to
Nairobi this is beacuse the MAF/AIM flights were fully booked and so he had no real alternative. He sets out on Friday and hopes to get to Nairobi by Tuesday to catch his flight back to the UK. The fax also tells us that Fares, Grace and baby Moses are all well. The children are all ok and working hard. A fuller report will follow when Brian reports back when he arrives home next week (God willing).
All for now.
