Christopher Gaster and Eddie Jeffery were picked up from Manchester airport at
approx 08:20 hours this morning - on time! thanks - good old B.A. Both looked well
even if a little sleepy. Both said everything in Tanzania was going well. Tabji's feet
were both healing and he was happy to be back at Bethany. Lafuta was also
settling in well. All the children were working hard at school and enjoyed growing
their crops whenever they could. Eddie said they had frequent showers which was
helping the crops to grow. Hopefully this year there will not be a shortage of food in
the village. Eddie promises to write a short report about the trip which will appear
on the web pages as soon as I have it. Christopher said on his return home "It was
good to get back to Bethany and feel the warmth of the sun on your back and the
warmth of the Family and having my name pronounced the Tanzanian way ' Christ
off a'".
Other News:
Don't forget our Prayer Morning and Information day Next Saturday 7th April.
Brief report of trip to Tanzania 18th-31st March for Christopher Gaster and Eddie Jeffery
When we arrived we collected Lafuta from Mwanza who had previosly run away but had realised all he had
given up at Bethany and had asked to return. We were greeted on site by the other 23 happy and excited
children. (25 children in total including Regina)
We decided to tackle building the roof on the new workshop first so that we had somewhere to work in the
shade and also out of the rain that came for a short while each day. Christopher had woked out a design for
the frame using the locally available timber which we screwed to the top of the containers at each side.
Christopher then carried on with the fitting of the roof sheets as I went to Mwanza to collect the rest of our
luggage and to pick up Tabaji. He had been in hospital having an operation to remove his two smallest toes
which had been damaged. He seemed lively and pleased that he would now be able to wear proper shoes.
A few days later I went to Magu to get some more timber and to send a fax to the U.K. Having chosen some
straightish lengths of timber for Christopher to make some fly-screen doors to keep out Mosquitos ,it then had
to be carried across a small wooden bridge over the open drain to be put on the Land Rover but the second
time I stepped on the bridge it snapped in two -much to the amusemnt of the locals nearby! I was rather wet
and smelly but soon dried out. In Magu I also met Regina who is doing a six month sewing couse. She has
been at the top of the class and was also able to get some extra practice at one of the local sewing shops. She
came back to Bethany with us to spend a weekend with the rest of her freinds at Bethany.
