PAST NEWS - MAY 2000
Monday 22rd May 2000 11:00 hours
Brian, Bill, Graham, Vicky and Tracey arrived back from their two week trip to Bethany on Saturday 20th
May. All were safe and well. The water is now siphoning from the lake to the well where the solar pump is
pumping the water to the water tank.
More and more people are coming to Bethany for their water and even mid afternoon over 20 people can be
seen queuing to use one of the four taps on our stand pipe. Much of the water is transported by young men
on bicycles to nearby villagers in 20 litres containers where it is sold for 50Tsh (about 4p). They usually
manage 4 x 20 litre containers per bike.
Our new boy Peter has settled in and his younger brother will be with us when released from hospital in
Mwanza. Apparently the boys had been looked after by their father, a local witch-doctor, who had set their
legs on fire to stop them visiting other children in the village. Peter is still limping due to the slow healing of
his burns and his brother is still recovering in hospital.
Sadly another of our family has run away, Lafuta (10yrs), a boy who had previously been living on the streets
in Mwanza before joining Bethany. He had found it difficult to settle at Bethany as he repeatedly stole money
and possessions from the other children and from Bethany. When he ran away he took with him several
items not belonging to him. Although everyone in the villages round about are looking out for him - he has so
far not been seen.
Don't forget our monthly prayer meeting is this Saturday 27th May, 10-12noon at Abbey resource centre - we
would be happy to see you there!
Monthly spending for March and April 2000 now updated on the Website.

Everything is in place for the next trip to Tanzania Sunday 7th May. (Brian Bancroft, Bill Rawstron, Graham
Pountain, Vicky Payne and Tracey Pearson). Please pray especially for Tracey as this is her first visit. Brian,
Bill and Graham will spend most of their time re-piping the 'well', welding, fitting the solar panels back on the
tower and rewiring. Vicky and Tracey will be helping with the work about site and also helping with the
children.
