Fax received from Tanzania today Monday 12th November 2001 at 11:15 hours
Quotes from the fax:
"The family is doing fine in general though malaria is still a day and day problem!"

"The siphon stopped to work last week on Tuesday. But Paul and the boys make it
work again. they came to notes the 'cork? D' in the lake is decaying because of rust. It
needs replacement because it is difficult to turn it on or off. It is now just half of its
normal size Brian shall work with us on it."
End Quotes

As you can see malaria is still an ongoing problem for Fares (please pray about this).
The other problem with the rusting valve in the lake is easier to solve. A new rust proof
(plastic) valve has been ordered together with the appropriate fittings. The cost of this
is over two hundred pounds mainly because it is such a large valve (i.e. 3").
Brian is making his final preparations for his visit. He will be loaded down with the big
plastic valve and fittings, special gearbox oil for the Land rover and some new metal
rings to repair the 'swings' as well as everything else he needs (clothes! etc.) You will
remember how Brian became ill on his return from his last visit and was hospitalised
for over a week with malaria. We ask that you pray for him on this visit - that God gives
him good health so that he may achieve all the tasks prepared for him to do.

Fax received from Tanzania today Monday 19th November 2001 at 15:09 hours
Quotes from the Fax:
Arrived safely at Bethany 3.30pm Saturday. Received usual Bethany welcome.
They are all very well at the moment. Baby Moses is growing well, not surprising
he has many Mama's here. Regina is very well, she has put on a lot of weight
since summer when she was so ill. The three 'new' children have settled well, two
girls Siya (2nd name Happy) Mwasi (2nd name Joyce) and the little boy Ngeme.
Ngeme who was in a poor state of health wise, has come on leaps and bounds
and now has the energy of any 3 year old - they are very pleased with his
progress, the rest of the children are fine. They were very happy with all the
letters received especially the pictures of baby Alex.
The mice have gone with the rain now started. Fares says there is plenty of food
elsewhere. The office ceiling has been hardboarded and it is now OK.
Everywhere is now green, they have had a lot of rain and the shamba (plant
growing) work is well on the way.
There are quite a few jobs to do, according to the children the swings are first on
the list. I understand it was Tracey and Rachel who gave them the most
hammer!!! but all is forgiven.
I have eaten well today (Sunday) Regina, Chaina and Emmakulata cooked
lunch, rice, cabbage and potatoes and Jamari cooked lake flies (yummy)
Will send more news later as this is the first 24 hours and I need some more
sleep.
Greetings and love to you all
His Others + yours, Brian

Faxes received Thursday 22nd and Saturday 24th November 2001
Quote from Thursday's fax:
HELP! We have lost all power (not water pump). Yesterday (Wed) approx 2.30ish the fridge
was making a funny noise as we cleared it out to have a look at it Jamari came and told us the
lights were flickering in the boys room, we tried all other lights and they all were flickering then
everything went off.
We have been through the manual and checked all possible leads, all the fuses etc are intact.
The 'Line tie' light, and 'Bulk' light on the led panel are flickering and 'error' is flashing on and off.
The led menu reading makes no sense at all. Following the checks in the manual we keep
coming across the sentence ' If it does not restart, call Trace engineering", is this the firm in
Nairobi/ please advise.
We spent the rest of the evening and afternoon checking and testing. We have 'blessed it' and
'prayed' for it but all to no avail.

We sent a fax back suggesting they looked for an electrician etc etc.
Quote from Saturday's fax:
Dear Team,
Sorry this fax will arrive too late for Bethany prayers. Spent a lot of time trying to solve power
failure to no avail. Brian went with John K. to Mwanza on Friday to find Electrician. We found a
young man willing to come if we picked him up on Saturday morning - Brian and Paul went at
6am. He dismantled the inverter, mice had been at it, however, it is still working (P.T.L.) he said
w were very "lucky". two more problems that were found, lizard eggs in fuse box in the clinic
and latest computer in house 3 is not working. It is now 1pm Saturday and everything is now
working. We will take him to Magu and he will catch the bus back. we think we have found a
good contact here.
Other news later as we must go. Keep praying for us!
Fares, Grace and all the family.
End quote

What Brian and Fares didn't know is that we did get the fax in time for our Prayer morning as
although the fax was sent 13:35 hours in Tanz as they are 3 hours ahead of us it was only
10:35 in the UK and just before we started to pray we checked to see if 'by chance' a fax had
come!
The fax was indeed good news as without electricity they can't purify the water or use the
microscope in the Clinic etc etc.
Join with us in giving thanks to God for His provision and especially His timing!
