Leslie and Marianne trip to California

My wife Marianne and I departed from Belfast Airport on a typical October morning and arrived in San Diego, California on a warm sunny afternoon. Next day we collected an R850R from Rent & Ride California. Journeyed east through Baker to Las Vegas, weather sunny and hot, temperature 96 degrees F. Marveled at the extravagances in Las Vegas, then took a flight to the Grand Canyon. Time to move on, taking the road through Death Valley, temperature at Furnace Creek 104 degrees F which is cool for this area! Stopped overnight in cowboy film town of "Lone Pine". Traveled north to Mammoth Lakes, then west through Yosemite National park stopping at "Oakdale" home of Hershey's chocolate factory. Next stop San Francisco and the experience of city life.
On the road again south on Pacific Highway No. 1 staying at Monterey and the Danish town of "Solvang", a most delightful place. Hollywood Los Angeles was next on our tour, by now, Marianne and I realised the meaning of the description "big city", unbelievable amount of traffic and people. One more overnight stop at "Dana Point" before returning to San Diego which is a very pleasant place to stay. Returned the R850R to Don Picker of Ride & Rent. By the way the R850R was a delight to ride, such a sweet running engine, excellent handling and comfortable for both rider and passenger. Finishing off the trip with a bus trip to Tijuana in Mexico. All in all a wonderful motorcycling experience in warm dry weather, leaving us with many lasting memories. (photos to follow shortly)
