MEADOWS

The MEADOWS family was in Longborough from about 1700, and it is thought that the family may previously have fled from Ireland. They settled in Longborough, where they rented a farm from the Banks Fee Estate, the second Longborough manor, which had been given to Sir Richard SHUCKBOROUGH in 1668 for his family's assistance to Charles I in the Civil War. English Heritage has recently designated Banks Fee as the site of the beginning of the Battle of Stow, which was the last battle of the Civil War.

Don't blame me for the spelling! :-) These entries are from the IGI until I can verify them from the Longborough Parish Registers.

Constance or Constantia RUSSEL(L) was the daughter of Johannis RUSSELL.

Nicholas had fathered two illegitimate children in 1771: Mary, his daughter by Ann MEADOWS, and Stephen, his son by Elizabeth CLARKE. I find myself wondering what Ann's parents felt about Ann and Nicholas' eventual marriage in 1775! Relief, perhaps?
