This years District competition was organised, as usual in the Inverkeithing Community Wing on Saturday 8th November. Many thanks must go to the organisers, to the Inverkeithing Wing and staff for use of their facilities (especially as we overran our time), to the Inch Scout Fellowship for keeping the scores and to everybody who attended and made the competition a success.
A special thanks must be offered to Keith Allan, who was asked at the last moment to stand in for the referee, and who then ran around for all 16 games.
This year, six teams entered, and the competition was played as a league, each team playing each other team, over a series of 15 games. This avoids the "knock-out" round, and lets every team play the same number of games. However after the 14th game, the results showed that both the 41st and 66th were equal on points.
As the rules were writtten to allow for extra play in the knock-out round it was decided to play the 3 minute golden goal rule, followed by a penalty shoot-out, best of five kicks, if no goals were scored in that time. This has been the closest fought competition for many years, and it was sad to see one of the two teams having to loose. But congratulations to the 66th, and hard luck to the 41st, you all played you socks off.
Many thanks must go to all those cubs scouts who took part, and to their leaders, family and friends who came to add their support to a very good competition. Thank you all and well done.
All games, except the play-off, were 4 mins each way. A suitable break was held during the evening for the referee to have a breather. The play-off was 3 mins, followed by penalties.
