5-A-Side Football Competition January 2006

Can you imagine?

All the strips clean and ironed.
Boots scrubbed that you can see your face in them.
Butterflies in your tummy.

Yes it was that time again.
The Rosyth District 5 a side football.

Due to problems with booking for the original two nights, this meant that the competition had to be deferred until January, with all three sections competing on the night, starting ealier at 4:30pm.

This year, four Cub packs took part. The semi final was just a goal feast with 7 goals in the first game between the 68th and the 48th Donbristle. The second semi final was just as good with a nine-goal thriller, With the 66th getting the best of the 13th.

In the final the 68th were in one corner and the 66th were in the other.
Who would be the victor?

Well after a well-fought battle the 68th came out the winners. The final score was 5-1.

In the scout section, all 6 troops took part in a two-league set up with the 41st and 68th progressing from league A. The 66th and 13th progressed from League B.

This set up a thrilling Semi Final between the 41st and their Rosyth Rivals the 13th. This was a game to saviour as the 41st went on to win 3-2. In the other Semi Final it was the 66th against the 68th in which the 68th won 5-0

The final was set and we were not disappointed in a 10-goal thriller. In the end the 41st deserved to lift the shield after winning 7-3.

Now on to the Explorers.

This year the 13th were determined to take the shield away from the 48th, who had held this for the past 4 years. However, this year the Explorers decided to spice things up by wearing their PJ's while playing the games. What a sight, Dressing gowns flying all over the place. Anyway the 13th demolished the 48th in all the 3 games that they played, although it was the first game that counted, so the shield was on it's way to Rosyth.

It was quite a night, but at the end of it all, everyone was a winner;
And the losers will be thinking there is always next year.

All games, were 5 mins each way, with a suitable break after each game for the referee to have a breather.

Finally, a thanks to the Inverkeithing Centre Staff for their assistance and use of the facilities, to Mike Warren who tirelessly refereed all the games, and to the Inch Scout Fellowship, who not only kept the scores, but through their fundraising efforts for the District, have paid for the hire of the Centre and for the trophies for all the winners.
