This year, the 5-a-side football competition was held over sucessive Saturdays. The Cub and Explorer Scouts on the 22nd, with the Scouts on the 29th November, at the Inverkeithing Community Wing. Although billed to start at 5pm, The sports hall was not booked until 5.30. This resulted in the Cubs and Explorer Scouts and Leaders hanging around in the cold until the centre opened. Word was sent round the Scout section for the following Saturday, to avoid the repeat and just as well for it turned out a rather cold night. Barry, the organiser did apologise for ther mix up, but he was told the booking was from 5pm.
Five Cub packs took part and as all the games this year, it was run on a league basis, with all teams playing each other. The 13th were on top form this year, winning all their games and finishing as outright winner.
Unusually, the Explorer Scouts played their games on the same night as the Cubs, with games being played throughout the evening. Four teams taking part, and this year so the closest competition ever, with the 13th eventually beating the 48th on a goal difference of three.
In the scout section, four troops took part in the league, and again the organisers were concerned that again goal difference may be used to seperate the winner as the 46th and 68th faced each other in the last game of the night. However, the 68th held their ground, defeated the 46th and became this years champions.
Cub and Explorer games were 3 minutes each way, with the Scouts playing 5 mins each way, with a suitable break between each game for the referee to have a breather.
Finally, a thanks to the Inverkeithing Centre Staff for their assistance and use of the facilities, to Mike Warren who tirelessly refereed all the games, and to the Inch Scout Fellowship, who not only kept the scores, but through their fundraising efforts for the District, have paid for the hire of the Centre and for the trophies for all the winners. Lastly, many thanks to Barry Wilson for organising the event, even down to providing the score sheets.
