This year, the 5-a-side football competition was held over sucessive Saturdays. The Cubs on the 21st, with the Scouts and Explorer Scouts to take place on the 28th November, at the Inverkeithing Community Wing. The sports hall was booked for 5.30 start.
Five Cub packs took part and the competition this year, was run on a league basis, with all teams playing each other, followed by a Final between the top two teams, the 13th (Rosyth) and the 66th (Aberdour). However, the 13th were on top form again this year, winning all their games and beating the 66th in the final.
Six troops took part in the scout section, and it was run on two leagues of three teams with the top team in each league playing the runner up in the other, with the resulting winners playing each other in a final. These games certainly entertained the gathered supporters, and after a nail biting final that ended being played in extra time the 13th scored that 'golden goal'. Commiserations to the 66th who gave their all.
The four explorers teams entertained the crowds in two totally different ways. The 68th played in their PJs and slippers, until safety called for trainers to be doned. And the 41st played their first game with only 1 player as the other team members had been delayed. Four teams played each other in a league before the top two teams played off in a final, with the 48th beating the 13th. Thankfully someone stopped what would have been a triple for the 13th.
All games were 3.5 minutes each way, with a suitable break between each game for the referee to have a breather, and before the final game.
Finally, a thanks to the Inverkeithing Centre Staff for their assistance and use of the facilities; to Willie Miller who tirelessly refereed the Cub games; to Penny Aitken who ruled over the Scouts and Explorer Scouts, and to the Inch Scout Fellowship, who not only kept the scores, but through their fundraising efforts for the District, pay for the hire of the Centre and for the trophies for all the winners. Lastly, many thanks to Barry Wilson for organising the event, even down to providing the score sheets.
If you would like to know more about the activities the Inch Scout Fellowship get up to, and it's not all work, we do have a social side as well, contact the secretary, chairman or any Fellowship member.
