5-A-Side Football Competition 2011

This year, the 5-a-side football competition was scheduled over sucessive Sundays. The Cubs and Explorer Scouts on the 13th November, with the Scouts taking place on the 20th November, at the Inverkeithing Community Wing. The sports hall was booked for a 1.00 p.m. start. As last year, the change of day and time was to reduce the cost for out of hours janitorial staffing.

Four Cub packs took part this year, some packs not managing due to commitments for Remembrance Parades on the Sunday. Unfortunately this was the only date available so the competition had to go ahead as planned. With only 4 teams, the competition was run on a league basis, with all teams playing each other. The 48th Dalgety Bay, took the trophy this year, narrowly beating the 68th Inverkeithing by 1 point.

Five troops took part, although the 48th played with only 3 members in their team, but in true Scouting traditional they did their best. It must be said that the DC took pity on them and in the last two of their games, played in goal for them. The results are shown on the tables. The 68th Inverkeithing taking the trophy, winning all their games. Second place on goal difference was the 13th Rosyth and the 66th Aberdour taking third place.

Unfortunatly, no Explorer Scout teams entered this year.

All games were 3.5 minutes each way, with a suitable break during the competition for the referee to have a breather.

Once again, thanks go to the Inverkeithing Centre Staff for their assistance and use of the facilities; to Paddy McAllister who was not only scheduled to referee the Scout competition, but also stepped in at the last minute to referee the Cub games; to the Inch Active Support Unit, who not only kept the scores, but through their fundraising efforts for the District, pay for the hire of the Centre and for the trophies for all the winners; to Barry Wilson for organising the event, even down to providing the score sheets. And lastly to the Cubs and Scouts and their leaders for taking part, without whom their would not be a competition.

If you would like to know more about the activities the Inch Active Support Unit get up to, and it's not all work, we do have a very active social side as well, contact the secretary, chairman or any Support member.
