Cycle 01

Glasgow to Edinburgh Cycle 2006

To help us raise funds for KanderJam 2007, we completed a sponsored cycle between 22nd and 23rd July 2006

9 excited explorers, 4 weary leaders and their 3 person support team began a journey that would make most people squirm; cycling 80 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh!

The 13 cyclists were dropped off at `Bowling` near Erskine Bridge on the West coast and were soon on their way, cycling along the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The first day would see the participants cycle 50 miles between Erskine Bridge and Linlithgow. Along the way they would take in the Falkirk Wheel and two canals (Forth & Clyde and Union).

All of the cyclists were very happy to see Woodcockdale stables when they arrived just after 6pm. This was to be home for the night. After a wonderful dinner prepared by the support team the group enjoyed a much needed evening of relaxation before heading off to cycle the final 30miles the following day.

Just after 9am on the Sunday, the group set off along the Union Canal once again to complete their cycle. This leg would see the group cycle much faster than the previous day due to the fact that the Union Canal is a 'contour canal' and therefore has no locks! In fact they were to cycle so fast that they would overshoot their first break point by around 12miles!

The group stopped for a barbeque lunch at Ratho canal centre after most of the cyclists beat the minibus to the lunch point!

The last few hours of cycling carried the group through the last miles into Edinburgh Quay near Fountainbridge.

A massive well done was said to all. An even bigger thank you was also passed onto the support team for all their cooking and support throughout the weekend!
