At the District Carol service on the 15th December 2004, The Chief Scout recognised the services of three Adult Leaders in Rosyth District. The three of them are also members of the Inch Scout Fellowship in Rosyth. The awards were presented by Danny Barr, the Area Commissioner for Fife, who read out the following mitigating evidence:
Peter Merckel; started way back with the 48th Cubs as a parent helper. Eventually, in 1983, he took out a Leaders warrant, and he is still there. In addition, he is also Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs for Rosyth District, a position he took on in 1999. He is also secretary of the Inch Scout Fellowship where he is actively involved. Peter is also a part-time paid member of the Scout Movement, because he is quarter-master of the scout equipment at Fordell Firs, the Scottish HQ of Scouting. All this, and he still has the time to run a cub pack!
Gordon Stevenson; his record goes back to 1971, when he started as an Assistant Venture Scout Leader with the 41st Rosyth, later to become Venture Scout Leader. He later moved to become Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts in Rosyth District and is now Assistant Area Commissioner for Scouts in Fife area. Although he is now with Fife area, he still serves his old District of Rosyth on the Executive Committee, at present being the Media and Communications Manager, the fancy title now for the PRO (Public Relations Officer), and runs the Districts Web Site. He is also an active member of the Inch Scout Fellowship. A hands on scouter, who regularily helps out troops when required.
Robert Liddle; or Bob as we all know him. Bob started as a parent helper in 1985, and was also a member of the Inch Scout Fellowship, and still is. He held the role of Assistant District Commissioner for Rosyth, and eventually took on the role of District Commissioner. Bobs main role in scouting is the Fellowship. He was an Assistant Area Commissioner for Development and at present holds the role of AAC for Fellowships in Fife. Bob also served on the Scottish Board at HQ for three years and was also responsible for organising two very sucessful area camps, each for some 4,000 members of scouting.
Danny, when trying to pin the medals, on the trio, made mention that over 80 years of service had been provided by all three.
