A Cub Scout Leader in Rosyth District has been honoured by the Scout Association with the award of the Silver Acorn. The presentation was made by Area Commissioner Danny Barr in the Methodist Church in Rosyth which is home to the 13th Fife Scout Group. Martin's Cub Pack and a large number of parents, former leaders and colleagues, and other Scout Leaders from the Rosyth District attended the ceremony.
In making the presentation, Mr Barr recounted the long and wide ranging contribution that Martin had made to Scouting over the years, both in his own Group and in Rosyth District. He reflected on Martin's enthusiasm for taking his Cubs to camp having run almost 80 such events over the years, his commitment to Scouting in Rosyth by serving on the District Executive Committee over a period of some 34 years, and his personal contribution to organising sports and other events.
Martin's contribution to Scouting at Group level has been immeasurable. He has been a leader in the Cub Section for over 40 years and in that time has spent over 600 nights away at camps and pack holidays with both the Pack and the Troop. He has built up and maintained extensive records of the Scout Group and of Scouting in Dunfermline and Rosyth Districts. His interest in Scouting history was demonstrated by a display of some of his own personal memorabilia. In acknowledgement of Martin's work and, to mark the occasion, the Scout Group presented him with a replica copy of the original version of "Scouting for Boys", the book that started the Scout Movement almost a century ago.
