Bluessential Hits the Sun Inn in Acomb, Hexham
Saturday 11th of February 2006 at 9:00 saw the kick off of Bluessential’s gig in the Sun Inn at Acomb near Hexham. Refurbished since I last darkened its doors, the scene was set for a night of great music! Starting off I thought the assembled crowd were going to be a little difficult, but as the Band swung into Walking By Myself with Mick Cantwell on vocals, I knew we were in for a treat. Hmm, the regulars started jigging at a very early stage, full marks to Dickie and Dave for hitting the floor so early on. Mojo Hand was next up with Neil Imrie on vocals. Excellent stuff so far. A little further into the set we were treated to a beauty of a number, Low down Dirty Shame with Mick Cantwell solo vocals with the most gorgeous sax and a superb guitar solo from Neil Imrie.  The bar was buzzing by now and Dickie and Dave still cutting it with the ladies on the floor to High Heeled Sneakers, someone should hire these guys out! The first set ended with a superb version of Hendrix’s Hey Joe with some ace drumming from Graham Jordan and ohhh so wonderful bass guitar from Andy Crowley. Neil Imrie finished this with superb guitar solo. Was that it? No after a short break the long set kicked in; with Tell Me Why with Mick Cantwell on vocals, followed by the crowd pleaser Hoochie Coochie Man which had the folks bopping on the seats! My treat for the night was a brilliant version of the man’s Cocaine with Mick Cantwell on vocals again. Could it get any better…yes Neil Imrie sounded off the familiar riff of All Your Love, wahay, I was transported back to The Best of Bluespower, Neil Imrie’s vocals on this excellent and Andy Crowley’s Bass hitting the spot very nicely. Then a treat; Ridin’ on the L&N with a superb long harp solo by Mick Cantwell. Boy, that man can play a harp! We settled in for the last number, Knocking on Heaven’s Door, everyone joining in with the vocals, Graham Jordan’s drumming on this piece sweet as a nut. What a shame it had to end at 11:00, but that was the end of an excellent two hours of Bluesatiousness! Where are these guys playing next, oh and I will be booking them for my next event….you should too.
