Welcome to my contribution to the World Wide Wait.

I hope you find what you’re looking for on here – if not give me a shout!

I was born into a musical family in 1969.

Early instruments included descant and tenor recorder (well at least that taught me to read) and electric guitar.

My mum taught and played piano at local primary schools.  She was a member of Pelton Amateur Operatic Society (later Riverside) and was Musical Director for a number of their Pantomimes.

My dad was always a fan of Brass Bands and we used to go to see Ever Ready Band.

My Brother started playing trombone in 1982 and joined Lanchester Brass Band in 1984.  He progressed to some dizzy heights specialising on bass trombone.

I started playing kit at Lanchester Brass Band in 1987 while studying A levels at Roseberry Comprehensive School.

Around 1993 I started giving lessons on kit and tutoring timpani at the band.

High points

Winning the McEwans Entertainment Contest with Lanchester Band within months of starting to play.

Playing for the amateur premier of City of Angels and taking it to Edinburgh Fringe in 1994 – we played it for four weeks in total and it was so complicated I learned the foot parts and read the hand parts to the end!  I was probably at my peak playing then until getting back into playing recently.

Playing with the soul band at my wedding.  Oh and getting married to Alison too, of course, who I met through Lanchester Band where her brother played solo horn.
