ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
We had a very successful Annual General Meeting in March held at the Acton Green Evangelical Church which was attended by 75 residents.
Subsequent to the meeting three residents, Clare Cole, Susan Evans and Geoffrey Rippingale, offered their services to the AGRA Committee and have been co-opted as members.
AGRA MEMBERSHIP
Membership of AGRA is now just over 200 households. Our target for this year is 300 households so please encourage your friends and neighbours to join. You will find the phone number and address of the membership secretary at the end of this Newsletter.
This is the last chance for those who paid last year to renew your subscription if you have not already done so. Unless you do we regret that this is the last Newsletter you will receive.
We are grateful for your comments included on your membership forms and will use these in our dealings with the Council and other authorities.
ACTON GREEN
We are sure you will have noticed the poor quality of the work done recently on the Common, following the London Transport contractors rebuilding of the embankment. We have raised this with the Parks & Countryside Service of the London Borough of Ealing. One of our new Committee members has been in touch with the Council concerning the state of the paths and the recent so-called refurbishment of the equipment in the playground. We have mentioned our concerns to Councillor Rose.
LITTER
We are concerned about the litter around our area and perhaps you might let us have ideas of how to contain this. The Council is against using litter bins. Please let us know if your street is not being swept at least every other week - some are supposed to be swept weekly.
We have been asked to give the number to report abandoned cars which is 8758 5506
CONTROLLED PARKING ZONES
There are five consultations on CPZ in the current year that will affect Acton Green.
1.
The area around Acton
Town. This consultation is complete and
implementation will begin shortly.
2.
Gunnersbury and West
Chiswick have been consulted and CPZ is supposed to be implemented soon.
3.
The area either side of
Acton High Street down to Southfields.
4.
The area around Acton Main
Line Station in Horn Lane.
5.
South Acton, Acton Green
and Southfields area. This consultation
will be the last and should take place in the autumn of this year.
Occupancy of Chiswick Business Park has increased and there is only 25% parking available for staff.
AGRA will be calling meetings at which residents will be able to discuss the consultation proposals for our area. It is hoped that the Council Officers concerned will attend the meetings to answer questions. In the meantime members might wish to consider the implications of Acton Green being completely surrounded by CPZs, the consequent displacement of parking from these areas, and the effect of the proposals for the introduction of congestion charging in Central London.
Work is about to start on the re-development of the Skoda site in Bollo Lane. This will be a four-storey office block with open floor areas which will be divided into offices as required. The block will cover virtually all of the site. It will have 37 parking spaces but could accommodate several hundred people. This will put more pressure on the limited parking in Acton Green.
CHISWICK BUSINESS PARK
There is a suggestion of a new station on the North London Line in the Business Park. Silver Link who operate the trains say that if there is a new station they will close South Acton Station because it would be impossible to have two stations so close to the level crossing. We will oppose the building of a new station so near to the existing one. The 94 bus will not go near the Business Park. Transport for London have decided it will continue to terminate as it does now.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
There has been a delay in erecting the new Neighbourhood Watch signs since Yellow Pages discontinued sponsoring them. There are problems over production and finding people to erect them. We have been assured that they will soon be put up and we have also been promised an up-to-date list of available leaflets and stickers which street co-ordinators will hold.
Don't forget to let co-ordinators know of any new neighbours so that they can be given Welcome packs.
Dave O'Grady 8246 9764 remains our Homebeat Officer. If you can't get hold of him at the moment it is because he is leading a team to help on a much needed building project for a Romanian orphanage.
We understand there is a rogue roofer in the
area. Be aware!
POSTAL DELIVERIES/COLLECTION
We wonder whether members are experiencing a worse delivery service than usual and have also noticed delayed collections from local post boxes.
