ACTON SECTOR (POLICE) WORKING GROUP

REPORT OF A MEETING ON MAY 19, 2004
 

Members were introduced to Inspector Phil Sanders who has replaced Steve Newberry

1. Some reports duplicated those presented to ECPCG. More details were given of the Safer Neighbourhood scheme; the Borough would be covered in 4 years provided the funding remained. Funding was guaranteed for the first 3 schemes for 3 years. Officers were now prioritising new wards to be included.
2. Local Authorities have taken over management of licensing premises and will need to be robust
3. Concern was expressed on the use of CCTV cameras; many are dual use, both for traffic management and crime detection. They are all managed by the Borough’s Head of Parking Control and can be diverted at will.
4. The need for more effective communication between Police and the community was recognised. Greater use of websites could help ameliorate difficulties in contacting the police. All Officers now have email addresses.
